My 403 is full of high risk investments. I want to know should I continue to sit on it?

I will not retire for 21 more years, and I am not planning on doing anything with my retirement anytime soon. Should I sit on it. I am afraid to open the envelope to see how bad I am doing. Lincoln Financial group is the manager. Should I continue to sit tight or change my investments around?

You should probably leave most of your assets in the stock market. You still have a long time to wait for the market to turn around.

Realize this – the losses are just on paper and not real until you move the investment. You have many years left to recover from this.

Using 1987 as an example, when the market dumped, many of my friends moved into safe investments. I stuck in the high risk investments and in two years, I was back in the black. I also continued to invest in some of the higher risk funds (after researching them a bit more to make sure where they were investing – they sometimes change their investment mix). Dollar cost averaging – buying more shares at a lower price, less shares at a higher price. This got me out of the woods quicker.

Always remember – Buy low, sell high. That is the path to profits.

You should have a mix of high, low and medium risk investments
